This interactive .60 CEU course is in movie format. This is an intermediate (mixed level learning) AOTA APP course which teaches the learner how to evaluate and treat flexor tendons. The learner will learn a variety of treatment programs to enable them to pick and choice appropriate programs for their patients. Instructional methods include: lecture, hands on demonstration, power point presentation, live surgical viewing. Upon Successful completion off this mixed learning level course via examination (80%) your certificate will be sent on email.

Objectives

After attending this course and participating, the attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize the basic anatomy and function of the flexor tendon, pulley system, and functions of the synovial fluid.
  • Identify the surgical landmarks and their importance/relevance in developing a rehabilitation program.
  • Differentiate intrinsic and extrinsic healing of the tendon
  • Distinguish the different suture techniques and implications for rehabilitation
  • Recognize the differences and similarities between the various protocols being used today: Kleinart, Modified Duran, Evans, and other early motion protocols.
  • Identify key timelines in tendon healing.
  • Determine the therapist’s management during each rehabilitation phase and critical time line

Notes

1. Recommend to have a rope, needle and thread to practice suture techniques
2. Will fabricate 3 orthotics: DBS, DBS with wrist hinge; Finger splints: recommend to have splint material to fabricate along with instructor
3.Surface anatomy will be discussed and recommended to practice along with instructor you will need either fabric pens or crayon pens that will easily wash off your skin.

Previously she has held the positions of Outpatient Therapy Supervisor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, CA. and Clinical Specialist II in hand therapy at Kaiser Permanente in Woodland Hills, CA. She received her CHT in 2001. She is the co-author of ASHT’s Treatment Guidelines for Tendon Transfer. Elisa also served on the American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee Board of Directors for 6 years. Elisa is a frequent speaker at national, state, and local conferences.
